The Active and Inert Ingredients in a Formulation

The active ingredient (AI) used in a formulation is the heart or lifeblood of a control product. The AI provides the biological activity designed to control a particular pest, whether it is an insect, disease, or a weed. Because every active ingredient is unique, they each need their own specialized inert (or non-active) ingredients to aid in their performance. The active and inert ingredients in a formulation are critical to the overall effectiveness and performance of a product. A balanced mixture of inerts combined with the AI will ensure a superior formulation that delivers consistent, dependable results.

Syngenta devotes significant resources to researching and developing new AIs and creating formulations that deliver dependable results to our customers, every time. To learn more about how our products are formulated, click on the videos in our formulation series below.
