Should I raise the height of cut this fall?

With winter approaching and the potential for a colder winter than normal, one small adjustment this fall that can be made to provide some winter protection to the plant crown is to slightly increase the height of cut.  Raising the height going into winter would be most effective on bermudagrass and annual bluegrass.  On more tolerant cool season turfgrasses like Kentucky bluegrass and creeping bentgrass raising the height provides little benefit.
