Tenacity® herbicide can be used for pre- and post-emergence control of more than 46 broadleaf weed and grass species. Its active ingredient, mesotrione, is based on a naturally occurring compound produced by the bottlebrush plant (Callistemon citrinus) that inhibits photosynthesis in susceptible plant species. It is absorbed by plants through the roots, shoots and leaves and distributed throughout the plant by both xylem and phloem translocation.
It is essential for superintendents to have a working knowledge of modes of action for fungicides, insecticides and herbicides to aid in the tank-mixing process. These codes, represented as Fungicide Resistance Action Committee (FRAC) codes, Insecticide Resistance Action Committee (IRAC) codes and Herbicide Resistance Action Committee (HRAC) codes, are typically listed on product labels. With Tenacity® herbicide, you can control weeds at the same time you over-seed. Most herbicide products remove weeds from established turf, but Tenacity can also be used to prevent weeds from germinating in newly seeded or over-seeded turf. When grass seed has a chance to grow without weed competition, fall root establishment is stronger, resulting in a healthier, denser turf stand in the spring. Read more »
