By Lane Tredway, Ph.D., technical services manager for Syngenta

  • Problem: Red imported fire ants create unsightly mounds and deliver painful stings
  • Traditional control issues:
    • Mound treatments with contact insecticides are fast but the results are often temporary
    • Insect growth regulators can take weeks to provide control

    • Speed and effectiveness: Rapid control within 12-48 hours; colony control within 72 hours
    • Mechanism: Attracts worker ants that spread the bait within the colony without alarm
    • Active ingredient: Indoxacarb, which is bioactivated by the ants' enzymes after ingestion
    • Guaranteed control: See the details of our Advion Fire Ant Bait Guarantee Program
    • Severe infestations: Scatter four tablespoons around the outer periphery of each mound for individual mound treatment
