New pest map from Syngenta to assist superintendents with monitoring mole crickets

  • Golf course superintendents can track mole cricket pressure and development
  • Interactive map allows superintendents to add and view scouting results
  • Additional resources available for successful mole cricket control
GREENSBORO, N.C., USA, May 4, 2016 – Syngenta has launched a new tracking tool to help golf course superintendents monitor mole cricket activity and progression. The new mole cricket social pest map displays crowd-sourced scouting data that allows superintendents to place markers where they have seen mole cricket activity and also follow the latest updates from their peers.

“The biggest obstacle to controlling mole crickets is timing and predicting where and when they are active,” said Lane Tredway, Southeast technical manager for turf and landscape at Syngenta. “This interactive map is another tool to help golf course superintendents track local mole cricket activity, which is crucial to applying the right product at the right time. This tool doesn’t replace soap flushes, but rather gives a platform for superintendents to share what they are seeing to help other superintendents with their timing.”

In addition to tracking mole crickets’ location and life stages, superintendents can pose questions and comments to their peers and follow the conversation on social media using #turfalert. Syngenta also offers a mole cricket assurance program to ensure superintendents receive the control they need. They can visit the site for treatment recommendations, videos and other helpful tips for controlling mole crickets.
