Broad-spectrum insecticide in a new class of chemistry acts through contact and ingestion against difficult-to-control insects in greenhouses and nurseries.
Syngenta announced today that Vykenda® insecticide/miticide, powered by PLINAZOLIN® technology, has been granted federal registration by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Vykenda provides the first active ingredient (AI) for the ornamental market in a new class of chemistry, IRAC Group 30. The mode of action in Vykenda acts through contact and ingestion to rapidly stop feeding and provide residual control of the most challenging insects, including mites, thrips, black vine weevil adults, red-headed flea beetles and more.
“After more than 10 years of research and development, we are very excited to bring a completely new active ingredient and new class of chemistry to the ornamental market,” said Laurie Riggs, insecticide brand manager at Syngenta. “This unique AI will control some of the most difficult pests that ornamental growers face, with strong knockdown and residual control, while being a critical tool for resistance management.”
Vykenda can be applied on all ornamental crops, including edible crops such as fruit and nut trees, vines, small fruits and vegetable transplants grown for retail sales to consumers.

Additionally, Vykenda is an ideal rotation partner with Mainspring® GNL insecticide, which is well-known for its proven control of sucking pests like whiteflies and aphids.
“When Vykenda is rotated with Mainspring GNL insecticide, growers have a complete solution to control the larvae and adult stages of nearly all common insects and keep populations from building,” explained Nancy Rechcigl, technical services manager for ornamentals at Syngenta. “We take pride that our ongoing investment in research and development has yielded such a strong solution for growers to control insects while also defending against resistance.”
Product is expected to be available to growers in the first quarter of 2026.
