Impatiens are a popular choice for color in ornamental production, but they can be highly susceptible to disease pressure. One of the most destructive threats is impatiens downy mildew (IDM), which can quickly disrupt production and compromise plant quality. By combining strong cultural practices with a well-designed fungicide rotation, growers can confidently protect impatiens from IDM throughout the production cycle.
Recognizing the Signs of IDMEarly detection is critical when it comes to managing IDM. Regular scouting allows growers to identify symptoms before the disease spreads and causes significant damage. Initial signs of infection may include:

- Stunted or slowed plant growth
- Distorted, wilted or downward-curled leaves
- Discoloration or spotting, primarily along leaf veins
- Small or underdeveloped new leaves
- Malformed flower buds
- Pale foliage with yellow, tan or red blotchy areas
- White or light gray/purple fuzz on the underside of leaves
Monitoring crops closely and responding quickly can help limit disease progression and protect overall plant health.
A Proven Strategy for PreventionA proactive prevention plan is essential for managing IDM. The
Impatiens Agronomic Program is designed to help growers protect crops from a broad spectrum of diseases during impatiens production, including IDM. This program incorporates multiple products with different modes of action to help support resistance management and preserve long-term efficacy.
SegovisĀ® fungicide plays a key role within this agronomic program. With systemic activity and long-lasting protection, Segovis can be applied as either a drench or foliar spray at low use rates. Its unique mode of action and active ingredient,
oxathiapiprolin, make it an important tool for maintaining consistent control of IDM and other challenging diseases.
