As poinsettia production progresses, maintaining plant quality requires careful attention to insects, diseases and overall crop health. A proactive management approach can help growers address challenges before they impact growth, development and marketability.
Whiteflies remain one of the most significant insect pests in poinsettia production. If populations establish, they can reduce plant quality through feeding damage and honeydew secretion that results in black sooty mold. Other insects, including thrips and mites, can also impact crop appearance and vigor when left unmanaged. Implementing preventive control measures early in production can help keep populations below damaging levels and reduce the need for corrective applications later in the season.

Disease management is equally important. Warm, humid greenhouse conditions create an environment conducive to diseases such as Botrytis, powdery mildew, leaf spots and other foliar and root pathogens. Preventive fungicide applications and a well-planned rotation program can help maintain plant health while supporting resistance management efforts.
