In response to a request from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Syngenta has voluntarily cancelled the Avid^® 24(c) Special Local Needs registration for use to control nematodes on golf course greens in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

Why was the Avid 24(c) Special Local Needs registration cancelled?
The Avid 24(c) Special Local Needs registration was cancelled in anticipation of a new nematode control product from Syngenta that will be coming to market in 2017.

If I have stock of Avid for use on my golf course, can I still use Avid to control nematodes on golf course greens?
Yes, the cancellation was effective on June 30, 2016, but you can continue to use existing stocks of Avid to control nematodes on golf course greens in accordance with the 24(c) Special Local Needs label through June 30, 2017.

If I don’t presently have Avid, can I still purchase it for use for nematodes on my greens?
Under the existing stocks policy, channels of trade may distribute existing stocks of Avid for 12 months after the cancellation date. In addition, end-users may employ the 24(c) to make applications to golf course greens for 12 months. Avid will no longer be able to be sold by the channel, or used by end-users, for nematode control on golf course greens after the expiration date of June 30, 2017.

Once the 24(c) registration expires on June 30, 2017, will I be able to apply Avid on my greens and/or turf?
No, once the Avid 24(c) Special Local Needs registration expires on June 30, 2017, Avid will only be labeled to control insects on the section 3 label on ornamental plants. There are no changes that affect Avid being sold to ornamental growers or for landscape ornamental uses. You can view the currently approved label for ornamental use here.
