Syngenta, GIS attendees donate more than $8,000 to industry organizations

Two well-known charitable organizations in the golf industry are celebrating donations from Syngenta with help from attendees of the 2017 Golf Industry Show (GIS). The Environmental Institute for Golf (EIFG) and the Wee One Foundation will benefit from proceeds raised by Syngenta events hosted at the show in February.

The inaugural Health in Action 5K fun run, presented by Heritage Action™ fungicide and the GCSAA, drew 160 runners. One hundred percent of the registration proceeds, totaling $4,000, were donated to the EIFG, which supports research grants, education programs, scholarships and awareness of golf’s environmental efforts.

“We’re really excited to have partnered with the GCSAA to bring this to fruition to benefit the EIFG,” said Dave Ravel, head of sales for lawn and garden controls, Syngenta. “Health and wellness are part of Syngenta’s core values, and sponsoring the 5K also helped emphasize how Heritage Action can help improve turf health. We were proud to be a part of this fitness effort, and we know the GCSAA and superintendents were, too.”

The fun run was an opportunity for attendees from across the country to come together and support the golf industry and their individual health at the same time.

“Any time that we can come together as a group to support each other and improve lives is important,” said Rhett Evans, chief executive officer, GCSAA. “We need to have more events like this that remind us to stop and take care of ourselves.”

Attendees also helped Syngenta contribute to the Wee One Foundation by playing the in-booth Turf Trivia Challenge. For each participant who tested their turf knowledge, Syngenta donated $10, which resulted in a total of $4,130 for the foundation. Wee One supports golf course management professionals and their families who incur overwhelming expenses caused by medical hardships.

“I am astounded by the generosity of our industry and thankful to Syngenta for continuing to come up with new and exciting ways to help others,” said Luke Cella, executive director, Wee One Foundation. “The trivia contest at GIS not only generated significant funds for Wee One, but continued to help raise awareness for us.”
