Rhizoctonia large patch, formerly known as Zoysia patch occurs most often in early spring. However, it can occur during autumn when conditions are favorable.
In autumn large patch occurs through the southeastern and southwestern United States.
Large patch develops under conditions of high humidity and nighttime temperatures in the 50’s and 60’s.
The rings or patches caused by the pathogen Rhizoctonia solani may vary from a few inches in diameter to several feet.
Large patch is much more severe on turf cut at a height below the optimum.
To help discourage the development of this disease in late fall raise the mowing height slightly.
