As you prepare crops to leave the greenhouse, a final fungicide application should be applied to protect them as they head to consumers’ homes and gardens. Proactively preventing common diseases can set consumers up for success and remove some common challenges that could negatively impact their gardening experience. It is also a good time to consider a plant growth regulator (PGR) to help plants stay uniform and compact on retail shelves.
Downy mildew on impatiens, Rechcigl |
For Downy Mildew & Phytophthora – Segovis® fungicide
Apply Segovis before shipping crops like impatiens and roses to prevent downy mildew and Phytophthora. This last application can protect crops all the way to the landscape. It can even protect crops that are planted in areas where downy mildew has been active in the past.
Led by Mary Hausbeck, Ph.D., Michigan State University studies show if impatiens are treated with their recommended fungicides, the risk of an outbreak in the landscape is significantly reduced or prevented. Segovis is listed as the last treatment before shipping as a drench at 3.2 fl. oz./100 gal.

Botrytis on impatiens, Rechcigl |
For Botrytis – Mural® fungicide
Plants that have been or will be boxed, stored or transported are highly susceptible to Botrytis because humidity and ethylene levels contribute to plant stress and susceptibility. To help keep crops clean as they move, spray Mural at 5-7 oz./100 gal. approximately 2-4 days prior to shipping. This can also prevent leaf spots, Fusarium and Rhizoctonia. Download our Botrytis guide for additional recommendations.
