By Mike Agnew, technical services manager for SyngentaAs winter transitions to spring, you have an excellent opportunity to ensure a successful start to the 2020 season. A strategically planned fungicide program will not only help clean up the lingering winter diseases, but also serves as an excellent preventive approach to spring diseases.
Research trials completed in recent years have confirmed the importance of early-season fungicide applications to combat many diseases that show symptoms much later in the year. By applying the proper product at the right time, you can start spring clean-up and precondition your course to reduce the severity of anthracnose, dollar spot and other diseases.
Instrata®,
Concert® II,
Headway®,
Headway G,
Daconil® Action™ and
Heritage® Action fungicides are great tools for early-season applications.
Heritage Action and Daconil Action: a powerful combination in turfgrass managementHeritage Action and Daconil Action are dual mode of action, broad-spectrum fungicides and plant activators. Heritage Action and Daconil Action adhere to the foliage and Acibenzolar-S-methyl (ASM) is absorbed and transferred throughout the plant. Heritage Action is also absorbed and transferred upward in the plant. Once absorbed, ASM stimulates the natural defense response, also known as Systemic Acquired Resistance, of the turf by activating the production of PR proteins. They are the plant’s natural defense mechanism for protection against plant pathogens and stresses such as drought. For more information, view the
Heritage Action technical bulletin and the
Daconil Action technical bulletin. You can also learn more about the
Daconil Action + Heritage Action Multipak, which contains 2.5 gal. of Daconil Action and 1 lb. of Heritage Action.
The timing of these clean-up applications coincides with the first fairy ring applications in many regions of the country. To make a preventive fairy ring application, begin to monitor
soil temperatures for 55° F, which is ideal for fairy ring symptoms to occur.
