2019 ABW season summary and 2020 outlook

The recent little heat wave combined with relatively dry conditions may have brought out some trouble with annual bluegrass weevil larvae in some areas. However, the current cooler conditions combined with some irrigation could alleviate any such problems.

ABW activity in Virginia Aug. 13 Update

As of the first two weeks of August, we are seeing an increase in adult annual bluegrass weevil (ABW) population levels at the three Virginia golf courses sampled.

Summer damage and Stage 6

Turfgrass insect pest issues – including annual bluegrass weevil - are traditionally pretty light in the northeast during July and August. However, we have seen an increase in the amount of phone calls/therapy sessions and site visits related to ABW populations damaging turf in mid-to-late summer over the last two seasons.
